Dr Steve Tomlinson
MB BS, FRCS LRCP, is the first ever Caymanian to practice medicine in the Cayman Islands having graduated as a Doctor from the University of the West Indies in 1972. After serving his internship he proceeded to the UK for postgraduate study where he was elected to the Royal College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians. His return to Cayman in 1978 saw him working for the Government Health Services as Chief Medical Officer and then Chief Surgeon at George Town Hospital. In 1983 he entered private practice in 1983 since which time he has built one of the largest practices in the Islands.

Anaesthetist
Dr. Stephen Gay
MBBS, DA(UWI), FFARCS(I) is a medical graduate from the University of the West Indies. He started his anaesthetics career in Barbados and received the Advanced Diploma in Anaesthetics and gained considerable general experience before moving to the United Kingdom. Dr. Gay holds the Fellowship in Anaesthetics from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and gained considerable expertise in specialist anaesthetics and pain management while working in a number of centres in the UK. These included Obstetric Anaesthesia and Analgesia, Intensive Care, Cardiac Anaesthesia, Adult and Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care, Chronic Pain and Palliative Care. Dr. Gay returned to Barbados and was instrumental in the development of acute and chronic pain management services there before joining the CTMH in June of 2002.

Dermatology
Dr. Sonia Kapoor M.D., MBBS (Lon). was raised initially in Cayman Brac and then in Grand Cayman before leaving to pursue a career in medicine at the University Of London (Royal Free Hospital) in England, where she graduated with the MBBS degree and practiced until receiving her license for the U.K and European Community from the General Medical Council.

Dr. Kapoor, having a special passion for dermatology and refined skin surgery, then went on to pursue a highly competitive Residency in Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery from the University of Miami in 2002. To perfect her skills further, specifically in cosmetic procedures, she served as a Fellow at the Boca Raton Skin and Laser Center, Florida before returning home to Grand Cayman. Dr. Kapoor is an active member of many prestigious societies such as the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.

In addition to the clinics listed below, Dr. Kapoor performs dermatological (cutaneous) surgery, including excision and repairs of skin cancers, fibromas, cysts, keloid surgery and more.

General Dermatology
This clinic focuses on a wide spectrum of conditions such as skin cancer, eczema, psoriasis, scars, acne, hair and nail fungus.

Paediatric Dermatology
A special paediatric dermatology clinic is held to deal with potentially contagious and distressing skin conditions in children. Specialized care of common skin problems such as impetigo, ringworm, eczema, head lice, acne, moles and warts is provided, as well as expertise in the diagnosis and management of complex and unusual skin diseases.

Cosmetic Dermatology
The evolution of cosmetic dermatology has expanded to include more refined procedures that are able to reduce the inevitable signs of ageing and sun-damage and to tone, smooth and even out skin imperfections of all varieties, (wrinkles, sagging/deep lines, discolouration, unsightly veins etc.) Botox, collagen and chemical peels are available.

Family Practitioner
Dr. Sidney Ebanks M.B.B.S (UWI) is a native Caymanian, born and raised in the district of George Town. He received his primary and secondary education in Grand Cayman, at the St Ignatius Preparatory School and the John Gray High School.

He graduated from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of the West Indies, Kingston, Jamaica in 1996. He interned at the Kingston Regional Hospital Group which comprises the Kingston Public, National Chest, Victoria Jubilee Women’s and the Bustamante Children’s Hospitals which are all accredited tertiary level training hospitals.

Upon completion of his internship, he was assigned to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Kingston Public Hospital, where he practiced Emergency Medicine and Ambulatory Care until January 1999, when he was appointed to the Department of Surgery at the National Chest Hospital.

During Dr. Ebanks’s appointment to the National Chest Hospital, he enlisted in the National Reserve of the Jamaica Defence Force, and was assigned to the Coast Guard as a Medical Officer upon completion of his basic military and officer training. During his tour of duty in the armed forces, Dr. Ebanks commanded the Coast Guard Medical Centre, a receiving station for acutely ill and injured military and civilian personnel.

While at the National Chest Hospital, he was instrumental in establishing the Esophageal Cancer Database, and presented several papers on disorders of the esophagus and management of Lung Cancer.

His main areas of medical interest are emergency care and injuries, respiratory and upper gastrointestinal disorders.

Family Practitioner
Dr. Michelle Mon Désir BSc, M.B.B.S.(UWI) graduated from the University of the West Indies Medical School, Trinidad in 2002 and completed her Internship in Paediatrics, Medicine, Surgery and Obstetrics/Gynaecology at the Princess Margaret Hospital Nassau, Bahamas.

Before coming to Cayman in June 2004, Dr Mon Désir practised obstetrics/Gynaecology and Accident and Emergency Medicine at the University Hospital Jamaica.

Dr. Mon Désir  deals  with a wide range of family medicine issues, although she has a particular interest in  women’s health.

General Surgeon
Dr. Christopher Bromley, MB., ChB, FRCS.Edin.,FRCS.Eng.,
graduated in medicine from Glasgow University, Scotland in 1970 with the award of the William Hunter medal in Clinical Surgery. He continued training and worked for the major part of his career in London during which time he received firstly Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and later Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons England.

Dr. Bromley came to Cayman in early 1995 as Chief Surgeon of the Cayman Islands Health Services, and from 2002 onwards he has practised as an independent general surgeon at the Chrissie Tomlinson Memorial Hospital, with special interest in minimally invasive surgery and endoscopy.

Dr Sarath de Alwis
MB BS, MS, FRCS, FRCOG, MRCP, MFFP, Dip. Ac & TCM worked as a specialist in the UK and subsequently was appointed Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology for the Cayman Islands Health Services in 1994. Trained in infertility, Laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, laser surgery, Colposcopy, reconstructive surgery, ultrasound, amniocentesis, cancer screening and minimally invasive surgery.

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
Dr. Ajit Ambekar MS Orth, FCPS, MCh Orth, FRCS is a British citizen born in Bombay, India. He graduated MBBS, D.Orth., FCPS Orth., and M S Orth. with a Gold Medal from Grant Medical College, University of Bombay. Dr. Ambekar undertook further Orthopaedic specialisation in the UK leading to MCh Orth (Master of Orthopaedic Surgery), University of Liverpool and FRCS (Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons, London) England. Dr. Ambekar has also been elected a Fellow of the British Orthopaedic Association, British Trauma Association, AO Alumni Association, Switzerland, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Association.

Dr. Ambekar has 30 years of consultant level experience, including 15 years in the UK. Prior to joining the Health Services Authority in March 2005, he worked at the Hammersmith Group of hospitals/Imperial College of Medicine, London with a private office at Harley Street, London, England.

In addition to his private office at the CTMH, Dr. Ambekar continues with his HSA commitments. Within the wide spectrum of Orthopaedics, Dr. Ambekar also retains a particular interest in arthroscopic (‘key-hole’) surgery of the knee, back pain and children’s orthopaedics.

Paediatrician
Dr. Helen Leonard MBBS, MRCP (Paed), MRCPCH graduated from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK in 1993. She has specialised in paediatrics since 1994, and gained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (Paediatrics) in 1996. She went on to higher specialist training including posts in general paediatrics, neonatal intensive care (including neonatal transfer squads), paediatric cardiology and paediatric neurodisability in the UK.  She is a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and she is an author of research articles in publications such as Archives of Disease in Childhood and Heart.

Dr Leonard deals with a wide range of paediatric issues. Particular interests are problems in the neonatal period, cardiac problems and developmental problems and disabilities including delayed development, ADHD and autism and epilepsy.  She has 3 children of her own and is child-friendly and understands the practicalities of raising a family.

Podiatry
Ray Anthony
BSc (Hons), FCPodS, MChS, SRCh, received his degree in Podiatry from the Chelsea School of Podiatric Medicine, London, in 1980 and went on to study Biomechanics and Foot Orthotic therapy at the California College of Podiatric Medicine, San Francisco, USA.  He is a member of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (UK), A Fellow of the College of Podiatric Surgery (UK) and a member of the Health Professionals Council (UK).

Ray Anthony has 25 years experience in dealing with all aspects of lower-limb care such as management of the at-risk patient (diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and vascular disease), dermatology, sports injuries, the use of foot orthoses (foot supports) and forefoot surgery.

Before coming to Cayman, Ray Anthony spent 9 years as a Specialist in children's foot and leg disorders at a major National Health Service hospital in the UK.

Ray Anthony is a renowned international lecturer in Clinical Biomechanics, Foot Orthotic Therapy, Paediatric Foot Disorders and Sports Medicine of Lower Limb.

Psychiatrist
Dr Marc Lockhart
MD received his medical degree with an internship in Infectious Diseases in Santo Domingo. He went on to receive specialty training in the United States, completing an internship and a four-year residency in Psychiatry at Wayne State University, Detroit Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan. He is board Certified and is dedicated to providing comprehensive behavioral health care. Dr Lockhart is also a board member of the National Drug Council.

Radiologist
Dr. med Yaron Rado, who was born in Germany, completed his medical training at the University of Hamburg graduating in 1999; and completed his Residency in Radiology at the University of Duesseldorf, Germany. He is a Board Certified Radiologist in Germany, and registered with the General Medical Council, UK, a member of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and of the German Röntgen Society.
